RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championships on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Salem, Va. at the Green Hill Park.
The Bears and Lady Bears will enter Thursday's race looking to improve upon eighth and ninth place finishes during last year's championships.
On the men's side, Shaw has one player from its 2018 squad that made the All-CIAA team in sophomore Torotich Kiplagat (Eldoret, Kenya) while freshman standout Peter Ekayi (Rumuruti, Kenya) will likely be amongst the talk as he had led the Bears in all five of its regular season contest, including a second place individually at the Livingstone Invitational (Oct. 10).
The Lady Bears return one top-15 runner in junior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) who is a 2X All-CIAA recipient in cross-country and finished 12th overall at the 2018 championships. Sophomore Luisa Cury (Araraquara, Brazil) was a few seconds short from making the All-CIAA team last year while senior Hannah Pealstrom (Chicago, IL) will also look to make an impact for the Shaw women's squad.
Thursday's races will begin with the men's 8k race at 12 noon. The women's 5k race will begin at 1:30 p.m. Live results and video will be available.
