SHAW XC HAS STRONG SHOWING AT GREENSBORO INVITATIONAL

GREENSBORO, N.C.  – The Shaw University men's and women's cross country teams put together a competitive showing at the 35th Annual Greensboro Invitational Saturday afternoon at Hagan Stone Park.

 

The Lady Bears finished fifth among 11 teams while the Bears placed seventh overall amongst a total of 12 teams.

 

On the women's side, freshman Luisa Cury (Araraquara, Brazil) placed 16th overall individually to lead the pack of Lady Bears with a time of 22:52.33 while junior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) finished 22nd (23:59.13) and junior Tashay Roberts (Bloomfield, CT rounded out the top-25 with a finishing time of 24:08.41 for 25 out of total of 77 runners.

 

North Carolina A&T State took home first place with 18 total points, followed by Fayetteville State (62) and Saint Augustine's (93) in second and third, respectively.

 

Amongst 79 runners on the men's side, Shaw had two runners finish top-10 including sophomore Mike Lagat (Eldoret, Kenya) who crossed the finish line with a time of 26:59.8 – good for the top time in the CIAA conference for a fourth place finish while newcomer Torotich Kiplagat (Eldoret, Kenya) posted a seventh place mark with a time of 28:39.5.

 

The Aggies of NCAT placed first overall as a unit with a total of 23 points. North Carolina Central and North Carolina Wesleyan took home the silver and bronze medals with 91 and 98 points, respectively.

 

Shaw men's and women's cross country will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the HBCU Challenge in Raleigh, N.C.
