RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team captured a 3-0 sweep of rival Saint Augustine's University on Senior Night inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Thursday evening. The Lady Bears won straight sets by the score 25-10, 25-12, 25-19 to conclude the regular season 15-9 overall and 15-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play.


Prior to the first serve, Shaw recognized six outstanding seniors in Tyler Hunter (Atlanta, GA), Jailynn Butler (Parker, AZ), Karla Sosa (Brownsville, TX), Destiny Leake (Charlotte, NC), Aisja Jones (Red Oak, TX) and Amari Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ).


Hunter led the offensive attack for Shaw with 11 kills on the night while sophomore Jada Flowers (Valrico, FL) dished out 32 assists and a host of Lady Bears recorded at least two digs paced by Jones with team-high five stops on the night.


Shaw registered a hitting percentage of at least .381, including a match-high .444 in the second set. For the contest, the Lady Bears hit .425 from the floor, totaling 40 kills compared to the Lady Falcons (0-16, 0-16 CIAA, 0-11) 12. Shaw held advantages in service aces 9-2 and assists 36-11.


The Lady Bears will now await the seeding of the 2019 CIAA Volleyball Tournament. Shaw will likely be the No. 2 seed of the South and will host a quarterfinal round in Spaulding between either Bowie State or Elizabeth City State.
