RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team will return to C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 2 when the Lady Bears host Claflin University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division match at 6 p.m. Wednesday's tilt is also tagged as "Faculty and Staff Appreciation", in which the Lady Bears will recognize faculty and staff that have made an impact to them on and off the court.
Admission is free and open to the public.

The Lady Bears (2-7) return to Spaulding after defeating Johnson C. Smith (3-0) Monday (Sept. 30) for its home opener. The victory marked Shaw's second-straight win and a 2-0 start in league action. Senior Jailynn Butler (Parker, AZ) is the team's leading scorer with 66 kills on the season while sophomore Jada Flowers (Valrico, FL) has a team-high 199 assists on the year. Flowers was named the CIAA's setter of the week for her performance last week in the Lady Bears 3-0 sweep at Livingstone.
Claflin (2-4) are 1-0 in league action, the Lady Panthers are coming off a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-18) sweep of Saint Augustine's in its last outing. Jala Roberts leads the offensive attack with 61 kills while Leah Wellington has 102 assists and Trinity Fierce has registered 80 digs.
Since 2017, Shaw has won four-straight meetings against Claflin, including a season sweep over the Lady Panthers by the scores of 3-0 in both meetings in 2018. The last meeting between the two teams was on Oct 25 with Shaw winning straight sets (25-21, 25-10, 25-15).
