RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team will travel to Wilson, N.C. on Thursday, Sept. 19 for a non-conference tilt with the Bulldogs of Barton College. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the Wilson Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears (0-6) are still in search of its first win of the 2019 season. Shaw came close to earning that victory against Pfeiffer on Tuesday, but gave up the final two points in the fifth set, falling 3-2 (18-25, 25-11, 19-25, 25-15, 13-15). Senior Tyler Hunter (Atlanta, GA) led the way with 11 kills, nine digs and four blocks while senior Jailynn Butler (Parker, AZ) added 10 kills and 11 digs.
Shaw's offensive game has improved since Tuesday's match, the Lady Bears post 8.48 kills per set (.114 hitting percentage) and average 13.48 digs per set.
Barton (2-3), a member of the Conference Carolinas (CC) Conference earned a 3-0 sweep of Elizabeth City State in its last outing, led by Kelsey Riquelme and Kaytlin Elkins who both registered 12 kills apiece. The Bulldogs won straights sets of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-15 in its home opener.
Thursday's match will be the sixth meeting between the Lady Bears and Bulldogs and first meeting since the 2017 season where Shaw fell 3-1 to Barton back on Oct. 21. Barton leads the all-time series over Shaw, 5-0 overall.
