RALEIGH, N.C. – Still in search of its first win of 2019, the Shaw University women's volleyball team will travel to Misenhemier, N.C. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 for non-conference tilt with Pfeiffer University. First serve is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Merner Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears (0-5) are coming off a disappointing 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) setback at Chowan last Thursday. Senior Jailynn Butler (Parker, AZ) led the team with nine kills and 11 digs while sophomore Jada Flowers (Valrico, FL) posted 17 assist, 11 digs and three service aces. Senior Aisja Jones (Red Oak, TX) recorded 11 stops.
Offensively, the Lady Bears have struggled, hitting just .090 percent – the lowest in four seasons. Shaw is averaging 14.06 digs per set, 8.19 kills per set, 7.13 assists per set and 1.38 service aces.
The Falcons, a Division III member of the USA South Conference stands 7-2 on the year after taking a pair of wins at home on Saturday (Sept. 14) against Brevard (3-0) and Toccoa Falls (3-2). Alonna Clouse leads the offensive attack for Pfeiffer with 109 kills (3.52 k/s) while Emma Gray Beacham is the team's defensive leader (104 digs).
As a unit, Pfeiffer averages 11.00 kills per set on a .195 hitting percentage, 14.61 digs per set, 9.32 assists per set and 2.55 service aces per set.
