SHAW VOLLEYBALL SLATED TO OPEN 2019 SEASON IN SHARK INVITATIONAL

RALEIGH, N.C – The Shaw Lady Bears are set to open their 2019 slate September 6 at the 2019 Volleyball Shark Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, FL on the campus of Nova Southeastern. The Lady Bears will compete in four matches over the weekend.

The Lady Bears open play Friday afternoon taking on P.R. –Mayaguez. First serve is set for 2 PM.  Shaw returns to the court at 7 PM to face host Nova Southeastern.  Shaw then starts the final day of competition facing Truman at 12 PM, with a short break in between their fourth and final match of the tournament against Lewis at 2 PM.

Shaw returns seven players from their 2018 championship squad including All-CIAA Preseason Team members in seniors Karla Sosa (Brownsville, TX) and Tyler Hunter (Atlanta, GA). Sosa earned All-CIAA Second Team recognition last season after charting 149 kills (1.77 kills per set) and collecting 147 digs (1.75 digs per set) and 23 blocks. Hunter registered 105 kills, 41 digs, 21 blocks and nine service aces during last year's campaign for an all-preseason honor

The Lady Bears are led by first year head coach Jonathan Paulk, who lands at Shaw after a head coach stint with Louisburg College.

Saturday, Sept. 6

Shaw vs Truman                                12:00 p.m.
