VOLLEYBALL LOOKS TO GET BACK INTO THE WIN COLUMN WITH A ROAD TEST AT CLAFLIN

RALEIGH, N.C.  – Shaw University women's volleyball will look to get back into the win column on Thursday, Oct. 25 when the Lady Bears travel to Orangeburg, S.C. for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest at Claflin University. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

 

Thursday's tilt will be second meeting between Shaw and Claflin this season. The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Panthers on Oct. 6 by the scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-12 in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

 

The Lady Bears (17-7, 13-1 CIAA) suffered its first conference loss of 2018 Tuesday night at division foe Johnson C. Smith in five set match. Although Shaw outhit its opponents and registered three players in double figure kills, the Lady Bears committed a ton of errors that ultimately would be its downfall down the stretch.

 

Senior Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) has led Shaw with 205 kills on the year while senior Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) tops the team and CIAA in digs with 352. Senior Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has amassed 508 assists.

 

Meanwhile, Claflin enters the match with a 4-15 overall record and 4-10 within the CIAA. The Lady Panthers is 0-8 in the Southern Division thus far, sitting in seventh place in front of Saint Augustine's. Jamie Dobson is the team's leader in kills with 103 while Jhi Piper-Murles has a team-best 207 digs.
