RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to face Johnson C. Smith University on Monday, Oct. 23 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division match. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Brayboy Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears, who sits in first place in the division (5-1), enters the match with a 21-4 overall record and 11-1 in the CIAA. Shaw is coming off a split at the Barton College Tri-Match Saturday, where the Lady Bears posted a 3-0 win of Mount Olive but folded 4-1 to the host Barton.
Junior Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) led the offensive attack for Shaw with 24 total kills, notching 12 attacks in both contests. Defensively, she combined for nine digs and eight blocks while junior Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) added 17 kills and 20 digs for the day.
The Lady Bears are 7-2 on the road this season.
JCSU enters Monday action with an overall record of 12-5 and 8-4 in league action. In division standings, the Golden Bulls currently are in fourth place with a 3-3 mark in the south. JCSU is coming off a 3-2 win at Benedict on Oct. 18. Gorana Bogdanovic poured in 18 kills, while Karina Pressoir added 11.
The Golden Bulls stand 4-1 at Brayboy this year.
Shaw will continue their road slate at Winston-Salem State University on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. The Lady Bears will close out the 2017 regular season schedule with two home matches against Fayetteville State (Nov. 6) and Saint Augustine's (Nov. 9). Both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m.
