RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball will put conference play on hold for a moment, as the Lady Bears will travel to Claflin University for a nonconference tilt on Saturday, Oct. 14 in Orangeburg, S.C. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in the Tullis Arena.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. Both teams met earlier in the season in Raleigh when the Lady Bears swept the Lady Panthers, 3-0 on Sept. 1 in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium for its season opener. Juniors Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) and Saraya Klink (Fuquay-Varina, NC) finished with nine kills apiece as the Lady Bears accounted for hitting percentage of .314 compared to the Lady Panthers -.145.
Shaw enters Saturday's match with an overall record of 18-3 and 6-1 mark on the road this season. The Lady Bears are coming off a 3-0 sweep of rival Saint Augustine's Thursday night. Junior Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) led the effort with 10 kills and nine digs.
Claflin, a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is 4-12 overall and 0-2 at home this season. The Lady Panthers are coming off a 3-1 loss to Albany State Thursday. Diara Lewis led CU with 16 kills.
Following Saturday's clash with Claflin, the Lady Bears will resume CIAA Southern Division play with a home match against Livingstone (Oct. 16) for their annual Dig Pink match at 6 p.m.
