RALEIGH, N.C. – After suffering their first conference loss on the 2017 season, the Shaw University women's volleyball team will look to bounce back with a road contest at cross-town rival Saint Augustine's University Thursday, Oct. 12 for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division match at Emery Gymnasium.

After Thursday's match, the Lady Bears will return to action Saturday to take on Claflin University on Oct. 14 in Orangeburg, S.C. at 2 p.m.

The Lady Bears (17-3, 9-1 CIAA, 3-1 South) suffered a 3-0 defeat by Fayetteville State on Monday. Shaw hit a season-low .049 hitting as sophomore Amari Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) led the Lady Bears with a team-best nine kills while junior Saraya Klink (Fuquay-Varina, NC) and Aisja Jones (Red Oak, TX) both added eight and seven kills apiece.

Shaw enters Thursday's game with an average of 12.56 kills per set (.226 hitting percentage). Klink leads the pack with 172 kills (2.61 k/s) while senior Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) is the team's leader in digs with 4.17 a set. Klink and sophomore Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, LA) have .88 and .70 blocks per set, respectively.

The Lady Falcons is 4-6 overall this season and 4-6 in the CIAA, with losses to Chowan, Virginia Union, Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State, Virginia State and Fayetteville State. SAU are 1-3 at home this season with a win over Livingstone. As a team, the Lady Falcons is averaging 9.9 kills a set and hitting .098. Shakera Hall leads SAU with 5.59 kills per set, and averages 2.50 digs per frame. Zoey Isom leads in SAU in scoops with 4.09 per set. Alyssa Smith and Chandra Mackey lead in blocks with .34 per set apiece.

Shaw has won the last five meetings against the Lady Falcons dating back to the 2015 season.
