WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team won two matches day one of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up hosted by Winston-Salem State University. The Lady Bears defeated both Virginia Union and Lincoln (Pa.), 3-0 Saturday.
Junior Saraya Klink (Fuqauy-Varina, NC) led the day with a total of 19 kills and nine service aces, including a match-high 13 kills against Lincoln (Pa.). Junior Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) added 17 total kills that featured a game-high 10 kills against Virginia Union while sophomore Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, LA) contributed 14 kills.
Junior Michelle Olmeda Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) dished out 32 assists and sophomore Alexandra Masnica (Chicago, IL) handed out 29 assists. Against Virginia Union, junior Alyssa Hill (Sparta, MI) recorded a team-best six digs and senior Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) and junior Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) grabbed six digs each in the contest versus Lincoln (Pa.).
Shaw swept the Lady Panthers 25-17 in the first set, 25-14 in the second and 25-15 in the third. Against the Lady Lions, the Lady Bears made quick work by holding a 25-5 advantage in the first frame, 25-9 win in set two and 25-12 defeat in the third set.
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Chowan to conclude the CIAA Round-Up at 11 a.m.
