SHAW WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD BEGINS SEASON AT BRAVES CLASSIC

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's outdoor track and field team will begin its 2020 slate at the UNC Pembroke Braves Classic Friday, Mar. 6 at the Dick & Lenore Taylor at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's javelin throw. The running events will start at 1 p.m. with the 4x100 meter relay.

Shaw returns nine athletes from last year's squad that placed sixth overall at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Championships in 2019. Of those nine returners, the Lady Bears are led by senior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica), junior Damoni Neal (Newport News, VA) and senior Laquel Harris (Nassau, Bahamas).

Wint is the defending CIAA Champion in the 800m run while Neal was a key runner of the Lady Bears 4x4m relay team that earned bronze at the CIAA Championships along with Wint.

As for Harris, she was a silver medalist in the discus throw also at the CIAA championships a season ago. The three Lady Bears were also recognized on the 2019 USTFCCCA Outdoor Track and Field All-Region Team.

Shaw is led by head coach Frantz-Kwame Smith in his second season at the helm.
