RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's outdoor track and field team sent a handful of competitors to compete in the 125th Annual Penn Relays Thursday. All told, the Lady Bears will have five individuals and the relay teams scheduled to participate in the prestigious event.
Penn Relays will go through Saturday, Apr. 27 at the Franklin Field. NBCSN will televise the Penn Relays on Friday and Saturday (eastern standard time). The times are 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Last year, Shaw's relay team made program history in the 4x4 relay with a time of 3:56.38 in which was the first time any Lady Bear ever received medals for their outstanding performances during the prestigious meet. The 4x4 relay team was made up of Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica), junior Tashay Roberts (Bloomfield, CT), freshman Damoni Neal(Newport News, VA) and junior LaCherie Clarke (Raleigh, NC) a season ago – all four Lady Bears are returning for the event this weekend.

The oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, the Penn Relays Carnival has hosted annually since April 21, 1895 by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. More athletes run in the Penn Relays than in any other track and field meet in the world, as the event regularly boasts a field of more than 15,000 participants from high schools, colleges, and track clubs throughout North America and abroad. Attendance at the meet typically tops 100,000 over the final days. This year's Penn Relays marks the 123rd running of the historic meet.
