RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's outdoor track and field team opens its 2019 schedule at the Coastal Carolina University Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Lady Bears will be competing in 16 events during the two-day meet.
The Lady Bears have nine returning athletes from a season ago, a Shaw squad that finished fourth at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championships behind eight podium performances and three event titles. Notable returners for Shaw include junior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica), Laquel Harris (Nassau, Bahamas), La'Cherie Clarke (Raleigh, NC) and Kyla Sanders (Hampton, VA) who all performed well at the conference championships a year ago. Clarke won the gold medal in the CIAA's 100-meter race while Wint claimed the 800-meter title during last year's run.
SU welcomes four newcomers, including two freshman under the leadership of first year head coach Frantz Smith.
