CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Freshman Tyefah Saunders (Kingston, Jamaica) of the Shaw University women's outdoor track and field team broke a school record by throwing 40.80m in the javelin at the 49ers classic on Saturday at the Transamerica Field. In fact, Saunders broke the record twice and has now set the new record at 40.80m. She finished ninth overall in the event.
Saunders also registered a 13th place finish in the shot put, with a throw of 12.59m which is also a new school record for the Lady Bears outdoor track and field program while sophomore Tiarra Derosa (Sandy's, Bermuda) placed 10th overall in the women's discus with a 42.94 mark.
In the running events, sophomore Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) placed 31st overall with a time of 2:23.06 in the 800m and junior LaCherie Clark (Garner, NC) finished 47th out of 124 runners in the 200m at 25.65, respectively.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Mar. 23-24 at the Trojan Challenge hosted by the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C.
