LADY BEARS FALL IN SEASON OPENER, 7-2

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team fell to N.C. Wesleyan University Monday afternoon in its season opener at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center. The Lady Bears dropped a 7-2 decision to the Battling Biships, falling to 0-1 to start 2020 while NCW improves to 1-0 on the young season.

 

Freshman Chetna Kumari (Gurgaon, India) defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1 from the third singles position while Kumari and sophomore Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) claimed an 8-3 win at the second doubles position. Senior Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) battled in the fifth slot, eventually dropping her match, 7-6, 6-0, 1-10.

 

Shaw will return to action Saturday, Feb. 15 against Pfeiffer for a non-conference tilt and home opener at 1 p.m. from Worthdale Park.
