LADY BEARS MOVE ON TO SEMIFINALS AFTER 4-0 WIN AGAINST BOWIE STATE

BOWIE, Md. – The No. 1 seed Shaw University women's tennis team (15-9) swept No. 8 Bowie State University (4-10) by a 4-0 score Thursday afternoon in the Quarterfinals of the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship at the BSU Tennis Courts.

 

With the win, Shaw advances to the semifinals against the winner of either No. 4 Winston-Salem State or No. 5 Fayetteville State University tomorrow, Friday May 3, at 10 a.m.

 

The Lady Bears took the doubles point with ease, cruising to 6-0 victories at the No. 1 and 3 doubles position. In singles competition, senior and CIAA Player of the Year, Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles to give Shaw a 2-0 lead while junior and All-CIAA Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) and All-CIAA freshman Eva Ostermeier (Munich, Germany) both secured 6-0, 6-0 victories for the Lady Bears 4-0 win.
