RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman Eva Ostermeier (Munich, Germany) of the Shaw University women's tennis team was chosen as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
The honor is Ostermeier's first of the season as she compiled a 2-0 record last week during singles competition at the No. 5 position. Ostermeier was one of two Lady Bears that captured a win in the setback to Johnson C. Smith with a 6-2, 6-0 win while going 6-0, 6-0 against Livingstone. Additionally, Ostermeier claimed a 6-0 win in doubles action with partner Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) in the Lady Bears last outing.
Shaw (10-4) was scheduled to play Fairmont State at 1 p.m. today for a regular season contest. No statistics have been reported at this time but please check back on www.shawbears.com for updates. Following today's match, the Lady Bears will continue its road skid with a trip to Charlotte, N.C. for a rematch with Johnson C. Smith on Apr. 6 at 2 p.m.
