WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team played its fifth straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest and the Lady Bears was able to extend its win-streak to five-straight after topping Winston-Salem State, 9-0 Saturday afternoon on the campus of WSSU.
The Lady Bears improve to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the CIAA while WSSU dips to 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in the CIAA.
Shaw swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead heading into the singles competition. Senior Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 position while senior Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 slot. Junior Siria Dibe (Tucumon, Argentina) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while freshman Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Shaw will return to action Tuesday, Mar. 19 against Fayetteville State for a Southern Division contest. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at Lions Park.
