SALISBURY, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Livingstone College (0-2) in its first division match of the season Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Bears improve to 6-3 overall, 4-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and 1-0 in the Southern Division.
The Lady Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles competition that featured senior Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) and junior Siria Dibe (Tucumon, Argentina) claiming a 8-0 at the No. 1 doubles while senior Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) and junior Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) were victors at the No. 2 doubles, 8-0. Freshman duo Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Eva Ostermeier (Munich, Germany) also grabbed an 8-0 win at the No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Shaw picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins in 1-6 positions to extend its win-streak to four straight.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 16 at Winston-Salem State. The matched is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
