MANTECON AND MANYONGA EARN CIAA WEEKLY HONORS FOR WOMEN’S TENNIS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Shaw University senior Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) and freshman Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) of the Lady Bears women's tennis team has been selected as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Mantecon earned Player of the Week honors after helping the Lady Bears to a two-game win streak at the No. 2 singles, most recently defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0 against Pfeiffer in Shaw's last victory.

Additionally, Manyonga defeated earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles while claiming an 8-0 doubles victory against the Falcons to be chosen as the CIAA's Rookie of the Week.

Shaw (2-3) will look to get back into the win column when the Lady Bears begin conference play at the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Elizabeth City State on Friday, Mar. 8. SU will face Bowie State (Mar. 8), Virginia Union (Mar. 9) and Elizabeth City State (Mar. 9). Match times can be found online.
