LADY BEARS TENNIS FALLS TO N.C. WESLEYAN, 9-0, IN SEASON OPENER

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to DIII North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon at the Slick Tennis Center for its 2019 season opener.

 

The loss puts the Lady Bears 0-1 on the young season while NCW stands 1-0 on the year.

 

N.C. Wesleyan swept all three doubles match and each of the six singles to record the win. The No. 1 doubles was close with senior Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) and junior Siria Dibe (Tucumon, Argentina) falling short 8-7. At the No. 3 singles, Dibe took her opponent to the limit before falling 7-6 and 6-2.

 

Shaw will return to action on Feb. 12 against Catawba for its home opener at Lions Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Lions Park is located at 516 Dennis Ave, Raleigh, NC 27604.
