RALEIGH N.C. – After an unblemished season against league opponents, the Shaw University women's tennis team will look to defend their title as conference champions when they participate in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) 2018 Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday, Apr. 19 through Saturday, Apr. 21 in Bowie, Md.
The event will be hosted by Bowie State University and all matches will be played on BSU's Tennis Courts on campus. Opening ceremony will begin on Thursday at 9 a.m. The championship is free and open to the public.
Shaw finished the regular season 18-2 overall and 12-0 against CIAA opponents to earn the No. 1 seed of the tournament. The Lady Bears also claimed its 10th consecutive Southern Division title under the leadership of head coach Sunday Enitan.
The women's tennis championship will begin on Thursday with the Lady Bears taking on the No. 8 overall seed and host Bowie State. Shaw and BSU met earlier this season where the Lady Bears blanked the Lady Bulldogs, 5-0 on Mar. 11.
The first 2018 CIAA Women's Tennis Championship Semi-Finals game is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, with the second game to immediately follow. Should Shaw advance, the Lady Bears will take on the winner of No. 4 Winston-Salem State and No. 5 Virginia Union.
