RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 16 matches by defeating Salem University, 9-0 in a nonconference battle at Lions Park on Monday afternoon. The Lady Bears improve to 16-1 overall and the Lady Tigers drop to 1-21 on the year.
Shaw won all three doubles matches before the Lady Bears cruised to win six singles to take the match.
Andrijana Martic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) picked up a 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, following Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) and Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) also with a 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles while Daniela Vanko (Quebec, Montreal) and Marilyne Kamegne(Yaoundé, Cameroon) won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles for the 3-0 lead.
There was four Lady Bears that were victors by the score of 6-0, 6-0 in singles competition, including Kamegne at No. 3, Martic at No. 4, Aleem at No. 5 and Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) at No. 6. Vanko claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 while Mantecon capped the match off with a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
The Lady Bears return to action when they travel to Fayetteville State on Tuesday, Apr. 10 at Fayetteville State. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
