SHAW TENNIS BEGINS ROAD STRETCH, TRAVELS TO BLUEFIELD STATE TUESDAY AND BLUEFIELD ON WEDNESDAY

 

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shaw University men's and women's tennis programs will begin a three-match road stretch, starting with a tennis doubleheader at Bluefield State College Tuesday, Apr. 3 at 1 p.m. Following Tuesday's clash, both the Bears and Lady Bears will travel to Bluefield College on Wednesday, Apr. 4 with a tennis doubleheader slated for 11 a.m.

 

The Lady Bears (11-1) enter Tuesday's match on an 11-game win-streak. Shaw punched in their sixth-straight 9-0 win at Livingstone on Mar. 29. Tuesday's match between the Lady Bears and the Lady Blues (0-14) will be the first meeting between the squads this season.

 

The last time these two teams met was on Apr. 3 where Shaw earned a 5-0 win. Bluefield State is a NCAA Division II program out of the United States College Athletic Association (USCAA) Conference.

 

As for the match on Wednesday, the Bluefield Lady Rams welcome Shaw with a 6-3 overall record and 3-3 mark at home this season. BC has lost their last two outings, including a 7-2 setback to Scad-Atlanta on Mar. 31. The Lady Bears and Bluefield met during the 2017 season and Shaw earned a 6-3 win in Bluefield, Va.

 

On the men's side, the Bears (2-5) enter Tuesday's match on a two-game win-streak. Shaw defeated Virginia State twice, including a 5-4 edge on Mar. 30 at home. Meanwhile, Bluefield State welcomes the Bears (6-3) with a 4-0 mark at home this season. Based on the Blues schedule, BSC has won their last five matches, including a 5-4 frame over Palm Beach Atlantic on Mar. 12.

 

Both teams have not met since Apr. 3, 2017 where Shaw suffered a 5-0 loss to the Blues in Bluefield, WV.

 

The Rams of Bluefield are 9-2 on the year, coming off a 5-4 win against Scad-Atlanta (Mar. 31). Shaw and Bluefield met last year and the Bears were able to secure a 5-4 victory on the road. Bluefield is an associate of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
