PETERSBURG, Va. – The Shaw University women's tennis team picked up their 10th win of the 2018 season with a 9-0 road victory against Virginia State University Friday afternoon. The Lady Bears (10-1, 7-0 CIAA) have now extended their win-streak to 10-straight. The Trojans slide to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the CIAA.
Shaw swept the Trojans in doubles and singles competition, including 8-0 victories in doubles No. 1-3 to go ahead 3-0 early.
Senior Daniela Vanko (Quebec, Montreal) won a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles for the Lady Bears and sophomore Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) was a 6-1, 6-2 victor at No. 2 singles. Senior Marilyne Kamegne (Yaoundé, Cameroon) topped her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while junior Andrijana Martic (Belgrade, Serbia) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Senior Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles and sophomore Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 29 at Livingstone College for a CIAA southern division contest. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
