RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's tennis programs will travel to Virginia State University Friday and Saturday, with the women's team scheduled to face the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while the men's will square off at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Lady Bears (9-1, 6-0 CIAA) will look to get their 10th win of the season in Petersburg, Va. Shaw has won their last nine matches, including their four contest by the score of 9-0. Virginia State women's tennis (3-2, 1-1 CIAA) has won their last two outings, including a 7-2 win over Salem on Mar. 18.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs this season. Shaw defeated twice during the 2017 season, including a 5-3 defeat in the 2017 CIAA women's tennis championship (second round).
On the men's side, the Bears (0-5) are still in search of their first win on the season. Shaw sufferd a 6-3 loss to Pfeiffer at home in their last match. Meanwhile VSU (2-3) is also coming off a loss; the Trojans were defeated by Salem on Mar. 17 by the score of 7-2.
Saturday's match will be the first meeting between both programs for 2018. Shaw beat VSU, 8-1 back on Mar. 26 in their last clash.
