RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University women's tennis ran their win-streak to nine on Tuesday, shutting out Fayetteville State University (2-4, 2-2 CIAA) by the final score of 9-0. The Lady Bears (6-0 CIAA) improve to 9-1 on the season with the win and their fourth-straight 9-0 victory.
For the first time this season, Shaw won all three doubles by the score of 8-0. The Lady Bears also picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at every singles positions 1-6 in dominating fashion.
With the wins, senior Daniela Vanko (Quebec, Montreal) and senior Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) are now 4-0 as doubles partners. Vanko has won her last five singles to improve to 5-1 on the season while Kamegne is now 6-2 overall in singles play.
Senior Simbia Aleem (Lagos, Nigera) posted her eight-straight win in singles at the No. 5 position. Sophomore Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) and junior Teodora Jovanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) teamed up for their for fifth-straight (5-0) at the No. 2 doubles while Jovanovic is 1-1 in singles play this season.
The No. 3 doubles featured junior Andrijana Martic (Belgrade, Serbia) and sophomore Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) where they recorded their third straight win as a tandem. In singles competition, Martic is now 8-2 on the season while Mantecon improves to 6-2 on the season.
Shaw will return to action at Virginia State University on Mar. 24 at 10 a.m.
