RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team used its best offensive production of the season aided by multiple seniors to coast to a 7-1 win on senior day over visiting Salem University (W.V.) at the Wake Competition Complex Friday afternoon.

Senior Teffie Ann-Browne (Kingstown, St Vincent) started the offensive showcase with her first of two goals in the 10th minute scoring unassisted. Leading goal scorer followed with another unassisted goal in the 23rd minute as she beat the Salem keeper choosing the right corner putting Shaw ahead 2-0. The two-goal lead lasted just two minutes as Freshman Fenja Soeth (Bokel, Germany) converted a pass from junior Katherine Inhoof (Virginia Gardnes, FL) for a header into the net pushing Shaw's lead to 3-0. Salem knocked in a loose ball in front of the net for it's first and only shot of the contest to trim the Lady Bears lead to 3-1 just before the half.

Laura Tonkin started a scoring frenzy in the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute. Less than a minute later, Curry scored her second goal of the match from a feed from Browne to put Shaw ahead 5-1. Senior Azul Madueno (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored the highlight goal of the contest with a high arching shot from about 25 yards out that just went over the Salem keeper to make the score 6-1 in favor of Shaw in the 60th minute. Senior day ended in a fitting way as fellow senior Browne closed out the contest with a header off a corner kick from Senior Andrea Licea (Ventura, CA)) providing the 7-1 final.

The Lady Bears outshot Salem 26-1 on the match with 17 shots being credited as on goal. Shaw also won the corner kick battle having five compared to two from the Tigers.

Shaw improves to 7-8 overall on the season while Salem (W.V.)  drops to 1-14 on the season. The Lady Bears return to action Tuesday, Nov 5 as they host Barton. Location TBD.
