RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team found themselves trailing early and would not be able to recover as they fell to Newberry College 2-0 Wednesday night in Newberry, S.C at the Smith Street Complex.

Newberry opened the scoring with a goal from Daphne Heyaime who converted a pass from 20-yards out into a header in the back of the net to put the Wolves ahead 1-0 in the first three minutes of action. Heyaime then attacked the Lady Bears again scoring her second goal of the contest unassisted this time in the 5th minute making the Shaw deficit 2-0.

Shaw settled down on defense shutting out Newberry for the rest of the way but was unable to produce any goals to trim into the early and final deficit.

The Lady Bears were outshot during the first half 11-8 and 9-6 in the second half for a combined 20-14 for the contest in favor of the Wolves. Newberry also led in corner kick attempts 9-2 for the match. Sophomore Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) led the way with three shots total for Shaw while senior keeper Caylie Hartman (Commerce City, CO) faced nine shots and was credited with seven saves.

Shaw falls to 6-8 overall on the season while Newberry improves to 7-5-3. The Lady Bears return to action Friday, Nov 1 as they host Salem (W.V.). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
