RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team will return home for the first time in four matches to face Southern Wesleyan University Wednesday, Oct.16 at the MAC Sports and Entertainment Complex. (8924 Midway West Rd., Raleigh, North Carolina 27617) Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
Shaw returns to the field coming off a 4-1 loss to Queen's (N.C.) on Saturday, Oct. 12. in Charlotte, N.C., bringing their record to 4-7 on the season. The Lady Bears have dropped two straight matches following their three game winning streak.
The Lady Bears were outshot 20 to 4 by Queen's (N.C.) in total match shots. Shaw managed two shots during each half. The forward tandem of senior Teffie-Ann Browne (Kingstown, St.Vincent) and sophomore Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) connected to get Shaw on the board in the 39th minute as Browne found the back of the net tying the contest at 1-1. Queen's dominated the second half adding three goals while putting 12 shots on goal.
Southern Wesleyan enters the match attempting to win back to back matches after topping Barton 3-1 on Oct. 12. The Warriors fell behind 1-0 at the half before putting on an offensive showcase in the final 45 minutes scoring three goals in the 50th, 53rd and 85th minutes. Southern Wesleyan enters the contest 4-4-2 overall. The Warriors are a members of Conference Carolinas.
Shaw leads the all-time series 1-0 between the Lady Bears and Warriors landing on the right end of a high scoring 5-4 double overtime contest on Oct. 24.
