RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team scored a season high four first half goals and never looked back as they won their third straight match 4-1 over Mars Hill Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Ammons Family Athletic Center & Meares Stadium.

With the win Shaw improves to 4-5 on the season. Mars Hill falls to 1-7-1.

The Lady Bears scored early and often to start the contest. Senior Andrea Licea (Ventura, CA) put Shaw on the board first in the 10' converting a pass from fellow senior Azul Mardueno (Guadalajara, Mexico) making the score 1-0. It took just two minutes for Shaw to find the back of the net again as freshman Fenja Soeth scored unassisted in the 12' pushing the Lady Bears ahead 2-0.

Mardueno would get in on the scoring action in the 15' giving Shaw a 3-0 lead in just 15 minutes of action. Sophomore Philine Diekhoff (Hamburg Germany) closed the Bears scoring in the half in the 29'. Mars Hill would stop the scoring run adding a goal in the 31'. Shaw would head into the half ahead 4-1.

The second half would be physical from the opening whistle with both teams seeing fouls called and a few yellow cards handed out to the Lady Bears. Both teams would put shots on goal, but neither would score leaving the halftime score as our final. The Lady Bears were credited with 12 shots with 9 on goal while the Lions put 19 shots in the stat book with 11 being on goal.

Shaw returns to action Wednesday, Oct.9 as they travel to Tusculum for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
