RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team survived the abnormal fall heat to power past Converse 4-1 Thursday evening in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Lady Bears have now won two straight to improve to 3-5 overall. Converse falls to 0-8 on the season.

Shaw applied pressure from the opening whistle which produced seven shots during the opening period. The Lady Bears finished the job in the 34' as senior Teffie-Ann Browne (Kingstown, St.Vincent) put Shaw on the board with an unassisted goal. Shaw carried that 1-0 goal to halftime.

The Lady Bears wasted no time after the break adding to their lead as junior Sophia Munoz (Wake Forest, NC) scored unassisted in the 46' making the score 2-0. Converse would trim the lead to 2-1 in the 51' on their only shot of the half. Converse mustered only three shots total on the contest.

Leading scorer sophomore Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) continued her goal scoring streak tallying her first of two goals on the evening converting a pass from Browne in the 53' to give Shaw the 3-1 lead.  Curry later iced the game with an unassisted goal at the 67' mark making the final score 4-1.

Shaw will look to make it three straight Saturday, Oct.5 as the Lady Bears travel to Mars Hill. Kickoff is slated for 1p.m.
