RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) blistered the net with two goals to help push the Shaw University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over King (Tenn.) University Tuesday afternoon at the MAC.
Shaw improves to 2-5 on the season. King (Tenn.) drops to 3-3 overall.
The Lady Bears opened the contest with a few good looks to jump ahead early. Shaw finally converted one of those looks at the 34' as freshman Fenja Soeth (Bokel, Germany) took a pass from sophomore Ana Schardong (Campo Grande, Brazil) to found the right corner to give Shaw the 1-0 lead. Shaw carried that 1-0 advantage into the half.
Curry, Shaw's leading goal scorer from last season looked to get back into that scoring mode as she scored her first of two second half goals in the 56' off the assist from senior Teffie-Ann Browne (Kingston, St. Vincent) to put Shaw ahead 2-0.
Shaw geared into cruise control that led to a penalty kick for the Tornado's in the 62' when McKenzie Clarke picked the right corner to cut its deficit 2-1.
Looking for the key insurance goal to ice the contest, Curry came through again in a clutch situation getting behind the defense and lodging a long shot pass the King (Tenn.) keeper to provide the final goal and score of 3-1.
Shaw returns to action Thursday, Oct. 3 at Converse. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
