RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer scored early but not often as they fell on the road to Coker, 3-1 Saturday afternoon at the Coker Athletic Field in Hartsville, S.C.
Shaw falls to 1-3 on the year. Coker wins their first match of the season while improving to 1-4.
Junior Leslie Mendoza (Miami Beach, FL) started the scoring early as she cashed in her first goal of the season at the 9' to give Shaw the early 1-0 lead. Senior Andrea Licea (Ventura, CA) was credited with the assist.
Coker wasted no time erasing the deficit answering with back to back goals in the 12' and 13' with strikes from Ashley Hogg and Neeley Reagin. Hogg then beat the Shaw defense for her second goal on the evening in the 39' to give Coker the 3-1 lead at the break.
Both teams would mustard opportunities after the half, but neither could change the halftime score. Shaw finished with 11 shots on goal while Coker fired in 9 shots on keeper junior Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) who was credited with six saves.
Shaw returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 24 on the road at Lincoln Memorial. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
