AMERICUS, Ga. – Shaw women's soccer team scored two goals in the first half and during the second half en route to a 4-0 victory over Georgia Southernwestern State Wednesday afternoon.
The win improves the Lady Bears to 6-0 overall – setting a new program record. GSW drops to 2-8 on the season.
Freshman Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) scored two goals to lead the Lady Bears offensively. Junior Andrea Licea (Ventura, CA) and senior Teffie-Ann Browne (Kingstown, St. Vincent) each scored goals for Shaw while senior MKenzie Safford (West Jordan, UT) and sophomore Leslie Mendoza (Miami Beach, FL) both would be credited with assists. Sophomore goalkeeper sophomore Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) collected her third straight shutout with eight saves.
Licea scored the game's first goal at the 11:43 mark and then almost two minutes Browne broke free with a pass from Safford to score and give Shaw a 2-0 lead at intermission. GSW held a 9-8 edge over Shaw in total shots but the Lady Bears registered a 2-1 decision in corner kicks at the break.
In the second half, Mendoza connected with Curry at the 55th minute before Shaw put the game out of reach for the Lady Canes when GSW's goalkeeper came up to defend and Curry went passed for the score.
Shaw returns to action Saturday, Oct. 6 at Catawba. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
