RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team extended its winning-streak to five games after blanking the University of Cincinnati Clermont by the score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the MAC. The Lady Bears are now 5-0-0 on the season, marking the best start in program history.
Shaw got off a good start against the visiting Cougars when standout freshman Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) darted past a UCC defender and buried the opening strike with under 15 minutes into the match.
The Lady Bears would lead 1-0 at halftime after holding an 8-5 advantage in shots and 5-0 ratio in shots-on-goal.
At the 50th minute, freshman Philine Diekhoff (Hamburg, Germany) scored her first goal of her collegiate career off a pass from senior MKenzie Safford (West Jordan, UT) that would put the Lady Bears ahead 2-0. Three minutes later, the Lady Bears would solidify the victory when senior Salma Luevano (Aurora, CO) found Curry for her eighth goal of season.
Senior Teffie-Ann Browne (Kingstown, St. Vincent) recorded five shots and three on target while Curry finished with three shots and two on goal for two goals on the day. In the net, sophomore Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) was not contested by the Cougars offense, which provided a shutout. The victory marks her second clean sheet of the season.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Georgia Southwestern at 1 p.m.
