RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University women's soccer opens 2018 by traveling to Chowan University on Saturday, Sept. 1. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. at the Hawks Field.

Under the direction of first year head coach Matt Brown, the Lady Bears roster features 19 returners and nine newcomers. In 15 games last season, Shaw tallied 24 total goals for an average of 1.60 goals per outing. Sophomore Leslie Mendoza (Miami Beach, FL) led the offensive attack with five goals while sophomore Katherine Inhoof (Virginia Gardens, FL) followed with four goals on a .250 shot percentage.
The Lady Bears are coming off a 4-10-1 record in 2017.
Saturday marks just the second meeting in program history for both teams. The Hawks (0-1) are led by Conference Carolinas Player of the Year in Carolina Lucci. She led Chowan with 19 goals in 2017 while Sabrina Henderson posted four goals and four assists.
The Hawks are coming off a 1-0 setback at UNC Pembroke Thursday.
Following Saturday's contest, the Lady Bears will travel to Converse on Sept. 4 for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
