MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team fell to the Hawks of Chowan University, Wednesday, 3-0.
The Hawks (9-1-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first half after Carolina Lucci hit the net off a heel flick from the right wing assisted by Sabrina Henderson at the 9th minute mark, following a goal from Rebekah Langley at the 20th minute.
The Lady Bears (3-9) registered two goals in the first half and one lone shot in the second compared to Chowan's eight in the first and seven in the second frame.
Lucci put the game out of reach for Shaw when she hit a penalty kick at 79:29 for the Hawks. As a team, the Lady Bears only tallied three shots and none on target. CU finished with 15 shots and nine on goal.
Freshman Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) recorded five saves in the loss.
The Lady Bears will travel to Johnson & Wales (NC) on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m., Brevard on Oct. 28 at 12 noon and conclude the year with a finale at Washington Adventist on Oct. 31 at 12 p.m.
