HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team faced Coker College Saturday afternoon at Coker Athletic Field in Hartsville, S.C. where the Lady Bears were defeated 2-0 by the Lady Cobras.
The loss drops Shaw to 0-3 on the season while Coker improves to 1-1-1 overall.
Freshman Laura Regidor (Zamora, Spain) made a game-high five saves while the team contributed six as a whole. The Lady Bears tallied five shots in the game, led by freshman Alana Navarrette (Sun City, CA) with two.
Coker hit first with a goal at the 22:46 mark to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Bears tried to respond when Navarrette struck but it was saved by goalie Samantha Hoffman. Shaw attempted one more time but was unable to even the score before intermission as the Lady Bears trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Shaw's Navarrette shot again at the 83rd mark but her shot attempt was saved by Cobras goalie, following a score from Ashley Hogg that gave Coker the 2-0 advantage at the 84th minute for insurance to take the win.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Friday, Sept. 15 at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Ala. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
