VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Shaw University women's bowling team was eliminated during the second round of the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship Tournament held at the AMF Lynnhaven Lanes Saturday.
In the opening round, the Lady Bears met Virginia Union as the Lady Panthers collected a 4-2 victory over Shaw, sending the Lady Bears to the loser's bracket.
Shaw squared off with rival Saint Augustine's – a team the Lady Bears saw great success against during the regular season during the second day of events in the loser's bracket. The Lady Falcons took an early 2-0 lead before SU battled back to pull within one but ultimately could not complete the full comeback as SAU managed to come away with the 4-3 edge, eliminating the chances of a title run for Shaw as they concluded the tournament eighth overall.
Competition will resume Sunday, Mar. 24 featuring Fayetteville State, Bowie State, Virginia Union and Virginia State at 11:20 a.m. for the championship title.
