RALEIGH, N.C. – A culmination of all the hard work and many hours of practice will be put to the test this weekend as the Shaw University women's bowling team heads to Virginia Beach, Va., to make a run at the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) title on Friday, Mar. 22 through Sunday, Mar. 24.
The event will take place at the AMF Lynnhaven Lanes located on 2601 Lishelle Pl, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. The championship is free and open to the public.
For the second straight year, Shaw (24-32) enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face the No. 4 seed, Virginia Union on lanes 9-10 during the first round. Last year, the Lady Bears was one victory away from making it to the semifinal round after falling 4-3 to Virginia State.
The Lady Bears will look upon the leadership of senior Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) and freshman Joan Wendt (Jacksonville, NC) who leads the team with an average of 172.60 and 151.60, respectively.
The championship will officially kick off on Saturday at 10 a.m., at 10:45 a.m. regular seasons awards will be distributed, followed by bracket play at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, bracket play will begin at 11:20 a.m.
