RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) and freshman Joann Wendt (Jacksonville, NC) led the Shaw University women's bowling team to a second place finish at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Divisional (CIAA Event II) bowling competition on Jan. 25-27 at the Pleasant Valley Lanes.
Rogers ranked 18th among the individual bowlers with a 10-game average of 154.4, including a high game of 189. Wendt finished 34th overall and second-best amongst the Lady Bears with a 127.80 average and game-high of 148 twice.
As a team, Shaw (10-14) completed the weekend with a 6-6 overall record, claiming four team wins and two Baker wins to go along with 3041 total pinfalls behind Fayetteville State who went 12-0 with a total of 3,848 pins.
The four team wins came on day one when the Lady Bears took a 650-622 win over Livingstone but would fall to Fayetteville State, Saint Augustine's and Johnson C. Smith. Day two, Shaw recovered with a 644-608 victory against JCSU, SAU (583-558) and LC (591-585). In the Baker games, Shaw earned victories against Livingstone (685-639) and Saint Augustine's (667-665) but fell to FSU (572-764) and Johnson C. Smith (587-683).
Shaw returns to action on Feb. 8-10 at the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Elizabeth City State.
