RALEIGH, N.C. – Looking to snap a seven-game skid, the Shaw University women's basketball team will host Johnson C. Smith University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Spaulding. The contest is also tagged as "White Out", free t-shirts will be provided while supplies last.
The Shaw Bears Sports Network will air the game live on www.shawbears.com under the "Gameday Central" tab with Donal Ware and Daimeon S. Banks calling the action from the sideline.
Shaw (6-15, 2-5 South, 2-10 CIAA) is coming off an 83-40 loss at Lincoln (PA) on Saturday led by senior guard Victoria Swanson (Monmouth, OR) who scored a season 17 points. Through 21 games, Shaw's offense has been anchored by senior guard Dejoria "DJ" Howard (Orangeburg, SC) who averages 13.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per outing.
JCSU (12-9, 4-2 South, 7-4 CIAA) enters Wednesday's game on a three game win-streak after earning a 70-49 victory over Elizabeth City State University on Saturday. Le'Zarea Bowens led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds. The Golden Bulls have been led by Bowens in scoring, averaging 11.9 points and a team-high 4.8 rebounds.
Wednesday's matchup between Shaw and Johnson C. Smith will be the first of two as the Lady Bears will meet the Golden Bulls again on Feb. 22 for its regular season finale in Charlotte.
