RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's basketball team will return home to the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium to host Virginia Union University in a non-conference contest on Monday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m.

The Lady Bears are coming off a 42-33 setback at Bowie State University in its last outing. The loss had dipped Shaw's overall record to 6-11 on the season and 2-7 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). As for the Virginia Union Lady Panthers, VUU improved to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the league play after defeating Virginia State 61-47 on the road.
Monday's contest will be the second meeting between Shaw and Virginia Union this season. VUU took an 88-49 win over the Lady Bears back on Jan. 4 in Richmond, Va. Junior guard Tyra Sinclair (Laurel, MD) finished with 16 points to lead Shaw offensively while the Lady Panthers had three players tally in double figures led by Peyton Evans with 20 points.
Senior guard Dejoria "DJ" Howard (Orangeburg, SC) is Shaw's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds. Shameka McNeill is the Lady Panthers top scorer posting 10.7 points while Jasmine Carter grabs a team-high 8.6 rebounds per outing.
The men's contest will start approximately 20 minutes after the completion of the women's game between Shaw and Virginia Union.
