RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University women's basketball put up a tough fight against an upstart Livingstone College team, but a several timely Lady Blue Bears squad held off a Lady Bears surge, 66-58 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest Wednesday night inside a packed C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears (6-10, 2-6 CIAA, 2-3 South) were led by senior guard Victoria Swanson (Monmouth, OR) with a season-high 15 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Dejoria "DJ" Howard (Orangeburg, SC) added 14 points and four rebounds in the setback for a Shaw team that was outscored 25-9 in points off of turnovers, accounting for 16 turnovers compared to Livingstone's (7-8, 4-4 CIAA, 3-1 South) nine.

Shaw trailed 23-14 in the first quarter as the Lady Blue Bears scored seven points off of Shaw's miscues and five points off of second chances.

Although both teams exchanged baskets in the last four minutes of the second stanza, the Lady Bears trailed by double figures (36-26) at intermission.

Livingstone owned a lead as large as 16-points overs Shaw to start the second half but the Lady Bears clawed its way back to pull within two points (46-44) with 40 seconds left on a 18-10 scoring frame but a 3-pointer from Darra Walker gave the Lady Blue Bears a 49-44 cushion at the end of the period.

In the fourth quarter, Shaw closed the gap to two points twice before cutting the Lady Blue Bears lead to one-point on a 3-pointer from Howard with 3:52 left but LC answered with a 3-pointer of their own to push ahead by four (55-51). The Lady Bears got within four points but that would be the closest they would get for the remainder of the contest as Livingstone closed out the game with a 5-2 spread.

Dasia Harris paced LC with 21 points and eight rebounds while Walker chipped in 12 points and three boards.

Shaw will return to action Saturday, Jan. 18 at Bowie State University for a CIAA cross division contest at 1 p.m. in Bowie, Md.
