RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University women's basketball will host Bowie State University on Saturday, Dec. 7 inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium for a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. with the men's contest to follow approximately 20 minutes after.

Shaw (3-3) is 0-1 in CIAA play after falling 62-47 to Virginia State on Monday. Senior guard Dejoria "DJ" Howard (Orangeburg, SC) who recorded her first double double of the season with 16 point and 10 rebounds led the Lady Bears in the setback. Shaw stayed within reach of the Trojans in the first half but in the second stanza, the Lady Bears were outscored 17-10 and 20-13.
The Lady Bears average 59.5 points per game, shooting under 40-percent from the field while allowing its opponents to post 57.7 points per outing. Shaw ranks third in the league for free throws at 70-percent.
Bowie State enters Saturday's matchup on a five-game winning streak. The Bulldogs have the No. 1 defense in the CIAA, allowing its opponents to score just 51.2 points per game. BSU is coming off a 58-46 win against Gannon on Nov. 30 led by Chyna Butler with 15 points.
Talanya Hutton is the Bulldogs leading scorer (14.4) while Kyaja Williams has a team-high average of 8.4 rebounds per outing. Bowie State averages 60.2 points per game.
Since 2009, Bowie State has held a 9-7 record against Shaw, including a three-game win-streak that features a 58-44 win for the Bulldogs on Jan. 12 in Spaulding during the last meeting.
