ETTRICK, Va. – The Shaw University women's basketball team will participate in the Virginia State University Thanksgiving Tournament Friday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Nov. 30 at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
The Lady Bears will take on Augusta University Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. tilt with Virginia-Lynchburg University on Saturday.
Shaw started the young season 1-2, coming off a 54-45 setback at Elizabeth City State last weekend. The Lady Bears have three players averaging double figures led by junior forward Diamononique Kennedy (18.3 ppg) as junior guard Ariana Fleming (Newark, DE) posts a team-high in rebounds with an average of 6.3, respectively.
Augusta is a NCAA DII member of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). The Jags are 2-3 overall, coming off a 78-34 loss to Benedict on Nov. 26. Kiera Howard is the leading scorer with 12.0 points while Kennedi Manning is the Jags leader on the glass with 7.5 rebounds, respectively.
UVL is a NCAA DIII member of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Hornets currently post a three-game winning streak entering this weekend's tournament, including an 82-61 win against East Mennonite in its last outing that stretched their overall record to 4-2 on the year.
The Hornets top scorer is Erin Green (14.0 ppg) while Abby Oguich is the team's best defender with a 7.3 rebound average.
