FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Freshman Amani Moxley (Moreno Valley, CA) scored 17 points to lead the Shaw University women's basketball team in scoring but the Lady Bears dropped a 73-62 decision on the road at Fayetteville State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest Wednesday evening inside Felton J. Capel Arena.

Freshman Taylor Royster (Cleveland, OH) chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds while senior KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in the offensive effort for Shaw.

The Lady Broncos took an early 25-10 lead after the first quarter but the Lady Bears managed to outscore FSU 13-10 in the second stanza but Shaw trailed 35-23 at halftime despite shooting just 38.1-percent from the field compared the Lady Broncos who charted 45.5-percent from the floor.

Shaw cut the lead to seven points with 7:50 left in the third quarter but that would be the closest the Lady Bears would get to FSU for the remainder of the contest.

FSU had four players finish in double figures led by Yakima Clifton with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists while Shantel Bennett registered 11 points and three rebounds. Both Katisha Hyman and Chinw Maduegbunam finished with 10 points for the Lady Broncos.

The Lady Bears fall to 7-20 overall, 2-15 in the CIAA and 1-10 in the South while Fayetteville State improves to 18-7 on the season, 13-4 in the league and 10-1 in the South.

Shaw will return to action Saturday, Feb. 23 for its regular season finale and senior day against Johnson C. Smith. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. in Spaulding Gymnasium.
